We are a 4-H community club located in Ramona, CA working under the national 4-H program which is America's largest youth development organization. The national 4H mission is to give all young people access to opportunity, which we provide at the local level through our many programs, projects, and events. Our club is focused on hands-on experiential learning where youth build their skills, capacities, and knowledge in a multitude of important areas including health, science, agriculture, and community service. All of our work is centered around year long projects built around specific skills and abilities that youth will be able to use throughout their lives.
The Ramona Stars are one of three youth 4H clubs in the community of Ramona, alongside the Paisanos and the Wranglers. Originally, there was only one 4-H club in Ramona - first called the Rag Bag Club then named the Ramona 4-H Club. The original club had over 200 families and they met at the Ramona Town Hall. In 1968, two new clubs split off from the original as the Paisanos and the Rancheros were formed. Not every family was selected for these new clubs, so Mrs. Emma Schmidt formed a new third club, named the Ramona Stars, for all of the kids and families who had not been selected by the other two clubs.
Through the leadership of Mrs. Schmidt, who with her husband, owned a small dairy on the corner of Telford and Hanson, the Ramona Stars quickly gained steam and soon became the biggest club with the largest selection of projects in the entire county. Many leaders, families, and kids have followed in the footsteps of the early club and the Stars continue to focus on offering opportunities to any kid who wants to build their skills, capacities, and knowledge in a wide range of projects.
To that point, we welcome anyone who wants to join us. We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7pm at the Ramona Junior Fairgrounds. Come join us or reach out via our contact page if you would like to learn more.
Our youth members are supported in their learning and development through the hard work and dedication of the many adult volunteers in our club, who give of their time and talent to lead projects and coach kids.
As a true 4Her, I pledge...
My Head to clearer thinking,
My Heart to greater loyalty,
My Hands to larger service and
My Health to better living
for my club, my community, my country, and my world.
